How To Remove Blackheads Effectively

A blackhead occurs when a pore becomes clogged with semi hardened dead skin cells and oil. These tiny blemishes can be extremely frustrating to deal with as they tend to be longer lasting than other types of acne and tend to be difficult to remove because they develop deep in the skin. When investigating various methods of how to remove blackheads, it can be relieving to know that a range of specific and inexpensive options are available. While many options are effective, most ways of how to remove blackheads require an on-going commitment as pores become re-clogged.

Drugstores offer relatively inexpensive strips that are moistened with water and allowed to dry on the affected area. After a few minutes, the strip is pulled away taking along a good portion of blackheads in the zone. These strips (Biore is a reliable brand name) tend to work best for smaller areas of the face such as the nose and chin.

Professional Extraction by a licensed esthetician or dermatologist is a viable option if you have the time to book an appointment and some extra money. The process of Extraction first involves the esthetician softening the skin with steam and a topical loosening solution and then manually removing the offending spots. This process is effective, but can be painful and leave the skin open to infection. Professional Extraction may not be suitable for sensitive skin.

It is not advisable to ever squeeze or pick at blackheads. Doing so can lead to scarring, infection and further blackheads and pimples. If you feel that you must squeeze and attempt removal of a particularly troublesome blackhead, thoroughly wash you hands and face before hand with warm water and a soft terry cloth. The warm water will open the clogged pores and allow for an easier extraction. Immediately after the extraction, wash your face and hands again and apply a topical skin disinfectant such as rubbing alcohol to the spot.

Prevention is of course he best way to avoid wondering how to remove blackheads in the first place. Keep in mind that blackheads are usually the result of clogged pores. Regular facial steams, a good facial toner that cuts excess oil and cutting out fatty foods can really make a difference in keeping blackheads and other acne at bay.
